My 2016 Honda Civic Maintenance Minder goes on saying I need new oil after only 3k miles. Is this normal for a car that takes synthetic oil?

So I got a brand new 2016 Honda Civic from a while back ago that has a Maintenance Light that comes on every 3k miles saying I need to change the oil. Is this right? Or is something wrong? Because I only had the car for less then 3 years with only 16 miles on it and this would be the 4th time I believe I would need to change the oil. I get the oil changed at the dealership too with the synthetic Honda Oil they use. So I can't understand why it would need oil changes this often? Is it possible something is wrong with the car? Because I thought you can get much further on synthetic oil then 3k miles

Normally, you should be able to go 3,000-7,000 on standard oil, and 5,000-10,000 on synthetic oil. Most newer Honda's suggest 10,000 miles on synthetic oil. They also state to change the oil every year, no matter what the mileage is. Find out if your light is triggered by mileage, or by testing the oil. If your light comes on at 3,000 miles, with less then a years driving (on synthetic oil), something is wrong with the motor. Talk with your dealership. I personally change regular oil at 4,000 miles, and synthetic at 6,000 miles.

You must do a lot of short trips. The Honda Oil Minder system is pretty darn accurate. Short tips are killers for oil life.

No, change the oil when it gets dark, not every time the light goes on. Take it back to the dealer. They'll check it out for you. Synthetics don't last forever. You might buy a K&N filter. They make one that lasts a life time. Just drain & clean. You're probably not resetting the light.
