Recommended tires for good traction on a Buick Century 2001?

I notice that my Buick Century 'feels' front heavy when I brake, meaning I get the sense it has a lot of forward momentum, and at times it makes me a little nervous (the brakes are fine) at least when I compare it to my g/f's Honda Civic, which feels like it has a more 'balanced' center of gravity. Regardless, what would be a good set of tires to buy, and would getting just two new ones for the front end be sufficient, since I could probably get another year out of all of them.

All good answers; am having struts checked on Monday, and am looking into a set of goodyears.

You need shocks and struts to cure your complaint.

But don't expect a Buick to handle like a Civic, ever.

No set of tires will benefit the car enough to compare it to a civic. Sure they may improve traction a little but not enough to make you happy in this case. If you're dead set, get a set of goodyears or michellins.

It's not the tires, it is your shocks and/or struts. Faulty, worn or defective tires would not cause the "forward momentum" you have described. Sure, you might need new tires as well but have the shocks and structs inspected immediately. Lastly, you always want to place tires with the best tread on the rear axle of your vehicle, regardless of drive type, to best reduce the risk of hydroplaning and loss of control. This is an industry standard.

When was the last time the front McPherson struts were replaced? You are describing the feel of worn out struts. Tires have little to no potential for correcting this issue especially if the tires you have are the correct weight bearing tires for the car.
