How to negotiate a price? Buying my first car?
Hi i'm going for my road test the 18th & I'm 99.9% positive I'm going to pass. So after I get my license I'm going to be searching for my first car. Something reliable. Something around $1500? I'm not sure what is a dependable first car with good miles. The only ones I know of are hondas lol. I just need something that will last me a couple years til i can buy a brand new one. Also, if I find a car around $1900-$2000… How could i make the seller knock it down to $1500-$1600? Right now I have about $1200 & my next paycheck is going towards it as well so I'm looking on craigslist for used cars.
You aren't gonna "make" anyone "knock down" a price.
As a buyer of thousands of cars over the years, I have learned the best way is to submit an offer, then stick to it. I have offered prices lower than the seller would agree to many times, then left only to have the seller call me and say he reconsidered and would take my offer!
There are too many cars for sale to get aggravated by the haggling process! I just don't do it. I sell the same way. There's the price, buy it or bye!
Cash works wonders. However, you are in a price range where a lot of the cars are just junk.
You gotta kiss some frogs before you find prince charming. And, in that price range, he won't be so charming.
Unless you happen to buy from a trusted friend or family member.
- Motorcycle dealer does not want to negotiate? Should I pass? Trying to buy a 2015 honda pcx150. I've called 2 dealers who both only want me to pay full MSRP + TTL + Fees. Why are they so reluctant to negotiate? I'm a cash buyer. What is their problem? Should I just pass and maybe wait until the winter starts to hit and maybe then they would be more willing to negotiate?
- How can I negotiate a 2 year old car model? I'm in the market to buy a new car but I saw the new 2018 Honda Fit are out. I also saw the dealership had a 2016 Honda Fit LX, it is priced at 16k. If a new 2018 Honda Fit with Honda sensing standard starts at 16k, how much should I even get a 2016 base model with no Honda sensing? I know 16k for a 2 year old Model is crazy but what's the lowest can I negotiate for? 10k? 12k?
- Buying my first car and want to choose the right car I need something with a lot of room and thats safe? I've been looking at the honda crv, kia sorento, chevy traverse/equinox, acura mdx/rdx, nissan maxima and buick enclave. I really want something thats going to last atleast (6-8) years without having to replace the transmission or engine I want something very reliable and i'm willing to pay more for something that will last than having to replace major parts in a short time thanks for your help!
- Taking my car into the shop for the first time (my first car and first time at a shop)? Recently acquired a 1999 Honda Accord for $1500 with only 160k. Runs great but my dad checked car and said oil is low and then proceeded to check the rest of the car and said all my fluids need to be replaced. What does that mean and what is the price for fixing this? I want to go to the shop with some sort of understanding of the prices so I know if I'm being ripped off or not.
