1977 Honda GL1000, selling, don't know how much?

I'm trading my "ruckus clone" that is basically a project that failed horribly on my end. Said he will trade his 1977 Honda GL1000 for my scooter.

He said that the only problem with the GL1000 is that it needs the carbs cleaned… Which isn't really much of a problem, easy solve. But if thats the real case, not much rust, only needs the carbs cleaned, how much could I sell this bike for… Depending if I don't fall in love with it and keep it for myself.

Check Craigslist. There are several similar motorcycles listed there now. Most of the working ones are around $2000 (Los Angeles). There's a really nice full dresser listed for $1000; that's out of the ordinary (I'd wonder if it was stolen).

Seems too good to be true, be very wary when checking paperwork and numbers.

If it is only carbs and you have a 4 carb vacuum sync gauge, or know here to get one, or are willing to buy one. And it has clean paperwork, might be able to fetch a grand or two… All depends on the shape, miles and accessories.

Assume tires will be shot, it will need an oil change, gear oil changed, cables may need replacing, etc.

We have 5 GL1000s at our shop, they are great bikes if you are willing to put the work into them.

My carb job on 1978 Wing after sitting 2 seasons while getting radiation treatments was a $500.00 job with a bit of fuel pump issue. Needed the ethanol proof carb bits and pieces, has a 4 hour shop book time. It runs fine now and is worth about $1000.00 on the insurance papers. Local shop got a couple in running very rough for $800.00 pair- one a 1100. Carb kits and lube, oil change and 2 weeks later they were running to Sunday brunch meet with $1100.00 and $1200.00 for sale signs on them- the $100.00 and dollar a cc practice for usable running old bikes in riding season. Carb issues are real on that vintage especially if it has sat awhile with Ethanol fuels. Alternator issues on a few, starter sometimes and fuel pump - regular oil changes history is a plus.

Rusty old honda gl1000 and carb needs to be cleaned, if it drives its worth about $600, if it dosnt drive, its worth about $250. If you can trade it in for failed your ruckus clone project, do that but don't pay to much on top of it, depending how "failed" your ruck clone project is.
