85 honda shadow vt500 start issues?
As far as i can tell the bike is fine. No rust at all and itll pop start one you get it rolling at about 5-10km/h. What could be wrong why won't it start without being pop started? Once it runs it runs great aside from overheat problems because the rad fan is out. Anyone had this issue before or know enough to email me back and forth for a bit? Thanks. Just bought the bike knowing it had starting issues but i'm a smaller guy that the original owner and i have a harder time pushing the 500 pound bike up to speed.
If more than 2 years old replace the battery. While you're there buy a smart charger ( the smallest they've got) about $60. The smart charger will get your new battery up to optimum charge overnight. Fit the battery & try again. While fitting clean the lead terminals with (carb soda & hot water first if any evidence of corrosion.) then a bit of sand or emery paper until they are shiny metal. Check the other ends of the leads as well.
If it still won't turn over then it's the starter solenoid or starter button or the starter itself.
If it turns over but won't fire check you haven't bumped the kill switch
Charge up the battery and have it 'load-tested', it may show 12V but it NEEDS amperage to get things cranking.
- My 1983 Honda nighthawk 650 won't start with the electric start? I recently replaced the ignition coils because the old ones were getting heat soaked and the bike would die, however now the bike won't start with the electric start it turns over fin and the starter sounds fine but it won't start occasionally it ll start when it's cold or try to but I've been having to bump start it in order to ride it. So what's making it do this? Could it be the kill switch? Or something else?
- I have a 2014 honda shadow phantom been having issues with my tail light Brake light works but the steady back light isn't working only shines when i brake electric problems maybe? Guessing it isn't connected but can't take the bolts off from the back to get to the electrical to the tail light and not coming off. Some advice on how to get it properly working would be most appreciated
- I have a 1996 Honda Shadow ACE. It won't start even though the battery is charged. What can I do? I just got the battery charged and the bike still won't start. I can hear it trying but it just won't catch. I know very little about engines but could it be the fuel pump or carburetor that needs to be cleaned or replaced. If so, how do I do that?
- I have a 1994 honda shadow vlx 600. I've been having charging issues? Could someone have put the positive and negative wires that connect to the battery on the wrong sides? All the batteries online look the same as this one and the cover on the bike only lets you slide it in one way (where the pos is on the right and the neg is on the left).
