Honda shadow spirit 750 or Honda rebel 250?
I'm a beginner in bikes and never been on a bike on high way and I'm taking my courses now and thinking what will be the best bike for beginners will it be the Honda rebel 250 or honda shadow 750 spirit. Bare in mind I used to ride a scooter 150cc for fun. I really need your advise because honestly I'm lost here
They're both great starter bikes. You'd be happy with either of them. The difference is how much highway riding you plan to do. The Shadow is going to be more stable and comfortable at highway speeds. The Rebel, OTOH, is all the motorcycle you will ever need, up to about 50 mph. (Though it will go a lot faster than 50).
Cruisers have the advantage of a lower center of gravity--as do scooters, BTW. Because of that they feel lighter than they are. So you can start bigger. A 750cc standard would be too much, but a 750cc cruiser would be easy enough for a beginner to handle. Shadows have been made since the Reagan years and they are EXTREMELY popular because a lot of people learn to ride on them. Likewise the Harley Davidson Sportster (which is a little bigger/heavier yet). In fact Harley has a new bike out just this year that's 750cc, water cooled, like the Shadow!
I strongly recommend you learn on a used bike. Look in your local craigslist. Used Rebels in good shape seem to go for a lot of money! I think it's just because they're so durned CUTE! They're not as easy to find. But you'll see Craigslist's motorcycle section is crawling with Shadows.
The 750 is the way to go. The rebel won't get out of way of traffic safely it's to slow. The 750 will be good for a couple yrs then ull wanna move to an 1100.
- Will my Honda Rebel 250 handle an hour on the highway at 60/65mph? I just had my truck tires stabbed by one of the wild 10 year old kids that roam my neighborhood. Now I need to ride my motorcycle to work. I'm not a big fan of highway riding. It's scary and I don't want to die. Anyway, the question is - will my little Honda Rebel 250 handle going 65 for an hour continuously? I know it's not meant for high speeds and is more of a little put putter.
- What tools do I need to remove the motor to my Honda Shadow Spirit? I have an old 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit with a blown motor. I want to try to take it apart and remove the engine. If I buy tool kit for the Honda Shadow will that come with all the tools I need, or are those tool kits more just for basic stuff. Just wondering if I need to buy a full socket set. And also if the bolts are metric sizes or standard?
- What is the max speed in each gear for a 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750? I can't find any details, even from Honda, what the maximum speed in MPH is for each of the 5 gear ratios on my 750 Shadow. Also, what is the engine redline? No factory tach and no details on what the engine is capable of turning.
- Should I get an 87 Honda rebel for 1500 or a 15 Honda rebel for 4100? Both will have same insurance rate. I know the older one will have more problems to fix but is cheaper up front while the newer one cost more now but will have less problems in the future. Also in case you are wondering the 87 is a 450cc and the 15 is a 234cc.
