How long should you prep new motorcycle clutch pads in oil for a Honda CB360 before installing them?
Added (1). I have my new clutch pads soaking in oil right now before I install them. I've heard its good to let them sit overnight, but is it bad to soak them for a few days? I assume it doesn't hurt them at all since they are essentially sitting in oil in the bike. I'm waiting for some new engine gaskets to arrive in the mail before I change out the clutch pads so they could be sitting in the oil for as long as 4-5 days.
You are correct, there's no ' too long ' . They live in oil
I used to have a CB 360. Not a bad bike for say under 100 mile rides. Or commuting.
1/2 hour minimum is what I let them sit. Longer is ok, but once the fibers soak in length of time doesn't matter anymore. So if I know I'm going to R&R a clutch pack first thing I do is start the soak process. Then I do the rest of the tare down. Do what's rite for you. When your under the clock, times change in the shop.
Never worn out the clutch in a CB twin (4 of them & over 100K miles combined) so I'd be looking at other reasons for your clutch problem. Binding cable, incorrectly adjusted cable free play the two most likely. Also possible weak springs in basket or worn/damaged throwout mechanism.
I preferred the early CB350 to the 360 the extra gear is a nuisance. My old K1 did over 60,000 miles a lot of it touring on bad &/or dirt roads or even off road
- Should I paint over a bad tear in my bumper, or order a new one and have the mechanics install it then have them paint it? I recently bought a used 1997 Honda Prelude. It's red and badly sun faded and has a bad tear on the rear bumper. I was wondering whether I should just have it painted over or order a whole new bumper and have the people at the shop install it and paint it for me. Any suggestions?
- Should I use a silicone sealant and/or blue loctite when installing a stator on a motorcycle? The stator recently went out on my 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 and I'm currently waiting on the replacement stator to arrive. It's come to attention that some people use blue loctite when bolting in the stator into the case, then a silicone sealant around the case when re-bolting it to the bike. Is this necessary/recommended and what kind of sealant should I use for the case if I need some?
- How many years from the year the motorcycle was built should you hold onto it before the parts become too expensive For example I was interested in buying a 2006 Honda CBR600f4i until I looked up the price of the fairing pieces. Just a small piece of the fairing was over $600. Of course they charge that price because they want you to buy a new motorcycle.
- How long should you keep a beginner bike before upgrading? On a Honda CB300F, financed it with a 4 year loan, might double the payments to get it to 2. How long should i stick With a 300 before going to say a 600
