How Strict is Illinois on it's Motorcycle Engine CC license requirements?
I was doing my research and found that for motorcycles/scooters anything less than 150cc requires a class L license and anything over 150cc requires a class M in the state of Illinois. I was looking at the Honda PCX150, which based on Honda's specs, has a 153cc engine in it. Now I know that's over the 150 mark, but I was curious if anyone know from experience if the Illinois DMV is willing to let 3cc slip and allow it to be operated under a class L license.
Illinois goes right at 150 cc and if you have 151cc you're on a 'motorcycle'. When I lived in Illinois I had a 150 Honda dream that had 154cc engine- it got the full motorcycle plates and was allowed on interstate system. Friends 150 Yamaha was 147cc and wasn't plated as motorcycle, not allowed on interstate- and it was couple hp more than the Honda 13hp, 10 mph faster.
Sorry, don't know Ill. Laws but I do believe that IF anything happens that involves insurance and you are operating even that little bit over the limit you will be screwed.
- Personalized license plate ideas? I want a cool personalized license plate but I don't what to make it. My name is Britt I drive a Honda I'm 21 I'm a country girl Birthday may 22 My eyes are blue My brown is brown Anybody have any ideas?
- Would I need a motorcycle license to drive a Honda Metropolitan scooter in Florida? I've been looking into getting one. I also looked up the rules for scooters/mopeds in Florida, but it was a little confusing and I think the scooter I want surpassed some of the maximum requirements for being classified as a scooter/moped.
- What's a clever/funny license plate for a motorcycle? Next month I'm getting a Honda cbr 500r (my first motorcycle) and I want custom plates. Any cool ideas?
- Shoud I buy the motorcycle before or after I get my license and gear? I found an interesting offer on a Honda CB500 from 1993 but I don't have my license nor gear. I'm afraid that if I don't buy it now I might loose it. What do you think? Of course I don't plan on riding with no gear. I'm going to store the motorcycle until it's 100% safe
