Basic hand tools, screwdrivers, wrenches. Maybe an impact screwdriver for some screws that are stubborn. The important thing is having a carb manual to know the correct float setting.

Ditto basic hand tools. There's "clean" and then there's "rebuild," which involves complete disassembly. You can clean it by spritzing it with carb cleaner any time you want. You'll need maybe a screwdriver to remove the intake boot clamps. If it's old a rebuild won't hurt. You'll need a can of Chemdip for soaking all of the bits. The Haynes and Clymer manuals are pretty good on carbs. There's also plenty o' youtube vids, dude.

Add in a good quality metric steel ruler & a copy of the manual for that model & series of bike. Float level setting is critical - an error of less than 0.5 mm will adversely effect the bike

A clean white surface, a soft-jawed vice, a couple of saucers or trays to keep parts together, correctly fitting screwdrivers Japanese crossheads are not Philips-type screws, a pick to remove tricky o-rings (do not use it to clean jets, use nylon brush bristles), a headlight is useful, steel rule or square. Take your time and buy a rebuild kit before starting. If you have multiple carbs only work on one at a time, do not swap parts.

Basic tools except for a vacuum gauge to synchronise the air mixture. If the carbs are not set up properly you will experience flat spots and rough running.

I was the local Honda shop's carb rebuild/clean guy. One critical cleaning tool that can make all the difference is a Honda carb jet cleaning wire set. If it is not available, get the smallest guage steel strings from a guitar shop. There are tiny air and fuel passages all throughout those carbs. You will need some compressed air with a rubber nozzle to blow out the passages. To check if the holes are all clear, get a can of WD40 to spray into the holes. I always used Honda carb cleaner that you should soak the carbs in first.

  • What tools do I need to remove the motor to my Honda Shadow Spirit? I have an old 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit with a blown motor. I want to try to take it apart and remove the engine. If I buy tool kit for the Honda Shadow will that come with all the tools I need, or are those tool kits more just for basic stuff. Just wondering if I need to buy a full socket set. And also if the bolts are metric sizes or standard?
  • If i make a wire harness will it work with out pulse generator and icu on 85 1100 honda shadow? If i just make direct line from stator to rectifier to starter selonoid and coils will it be fine with out the pulse generator and the 2 icm/icu? I want to eliminate a bunchof stuff on it and i was wondering if that could go as well. It was a mess when i bought it i will figure it out if it must stay but i just need to know if it can go because it will be less of a headache if i can keep it going with out it.
  • How much should I pay for a 1980 Honda cx500? Needs battery and carb clean, with 55K miles. Dallas, tx? I'm looking forward to my first motorcycle, and I think I found one… It's a 1980 Honda CX500, it has 55K miles on it and it also needs a battery, and they also said just a carb clean… It also needs inspection sticker, and they said it will pass with ease… How much should I pay for a bike like this? I live in Texas if that makes a difference.
  • Can you put harley wide glide forks on a honda shadow ace 1100? Both forks are 41mm. I'm trying to put a 21" front tire on the bike and I'm weighing my options on what I should do. If the forks can set into the triple tree with not much problem Luke only having to make shims then that's the way to go.
