What age car should I choose for delivery pizza job?
When shopping for used car, I noticed same make and model values dropped fast from brand new into few years old.
Now I saw one 10 years old for 5999. 15 years old for 4999, 20 years old for 3999, 25 years old for 3499. Which would you choose? It's all same manufacturers make and model.
All 4 of them have 40,000 miles on it. I got all of them inspected and they all excellent conditions. They all are Honda.
Which would you pick?
Hondas depreciate 35% in value every 5 years, so I have no idea where you are getting these numbers.
I will say that a 25 year old car with only 40k miles might be a buy as a collector's item.
At those prices, I'd choose the 10 year old car. You only save $1,000 by going 5 years older. Theoretically, you get 5 additional years (roughly 50,000 miles) more driving for only $1000 more. You won't beat that deal.
But I don't buy cars in a vacuum without all relevant info. I research them online and look for specific years with good or bad reliability. For example I was looking for a full size SUV a while ago, I found that Chevy Suburbans had excellent reliability up until 2006, but in 2007 they introduced a new generation with new styling and new engine options (specifically a system that shuts off half the cylinders when you don't need as much power). That year (2007) had absolutely terrible reliability ratings. Chevy started fixing the issues and reliability climbed steadily until about 2010 model year they were back to decent ratings.
So in a case where I found that info, I would have opted for an older vehicle (2006 or previous) instead of 2007-2010 model.
Also different cars drop in value at different rates. Some cars might lose 80% of their value in 10 years, others might only lose 40%. So you have to shop around. If you're looking for a car that holds its value you may need to go older to get a good deal. It might make sense to buy a different type of car that drops faster so you can get it newer with lower miles.
There's no perfect answer.
Your American car prices are stupid as hell… I bought a 13 year old car for the equivalent of $820 with 81k miles on it in good condition where I'm from, with 143Bhp and 190NM torque too which is always a good car in any market… Id literally say you should import one from Poland/ south africa/ whever is cheap and spend 2.5k getting a 2005 bmw 520 or something… There's freight company's which will ship a whole car for reasonable prices too… I don't know… If your doing pizza deliverys I recommend a really small engine Toyota within the margin of 12 years old (If money's not a prob then 8 years old) other than that i don't know
You have no idea what you are talking about.
I question your figures, but if what you say is true, AND they are in equal condition,… Then buy the newest one because they will hardly depreciate, and you may as well have the modern safety benefits. (the 25 year old one may not even have ABS)
$3.5K for a 25yo car?!
Yikes. Should be about $500, maybe a bit extra if it has fuel in the tank. If you're gonna be using it for work, get the cheapest one that'll do the job.
Don't know
If I were to buy a Honda for pizza delivery, I'd buy a fairly newish PCX 150 or a Grom.
I'd pick the most expensive one I could afford. Don't spend more on the car then you'll earn using it.
These prices are all way too high, for cars that old. You can get better deals on craigslist. Also, it's important that you buy the newest car you can afford. Otherwise you will spend too much on repairs.
