Does my car have a bad battery or does it have a bad alternator?
I drive a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe. I've had this car now for about 2 1/2 years. Since I've had it, I have had to replace the battery twice. Once a year after I got it and again a few months ago this year. Recently, like the past 2 months or so it would die at least once a week after I got a charge, took it to autozone to see if the battery was bad about a month ago, turns out the connection was actually loose. Didn't have a problem after I got that problem solved ever since. Now, last week the battery dies once again, this time, the car is not even powering on to crank. I have to manually open the door because the battery is so dead not even the auto unlock on my key works. At this point I'm starting to think the alternator is going bad but I'm not exactly sure. I know when I took it to Autozone about a month ago they told me the battery was fine. I checked all my connections and everything is still nice and tight so It's definitely not that. I jump started it last night, drove it around the block just to keep the car running for a while, I come out this morning it is completely dead again. Not cranking or anything. Any ideas of what it could be? I plan on getting it tested but I just need to know so I can start looking up parts and getting quotes.
1.It is quite likely that if your car has a battery light that would be on if your alternator was bad. If you get it running and the light is not on then your alternator is likely good. That is also confirmed by measuring the voltage on the battery when running upper 13 to mid 14 volts.
2. You could have a drain on the battery disconnecting a cable when parking will prove that.
3. Don't buy batteries from Autozone once upon a time they were good now, they die like flies
- Which car battery is better? EverStart Maxx Lead or Duralast Gold/Battery? Facts: I drive a 2007 Honda SE, 4 cylinder. Been using a Kirkland (costco battery; group size 51r) for about 5 years. Looking for a battery in case this one dies.
- Car problems- is it battery or alternator or both? Car does not have enough juice to crank. Everything turns on but only clicking noise. I get a jump and it is fine for a few days. Yesterday radio starts turning off and on. Today the air conditioner (on full blast) increases power when I accelerate. Notes: 2003 Honda Civic 4 door LX 5 speed manual trans 1.7 L
- Car battery float charger goes straight to float mode though battery is dead? I recently purchased a Stanley 6v float charger because my 2 year old honda battery died pretty sure the battery was the problem since the car started fine with a jumpstart but when i took the battery out the car and plugged the charger on it, went straight to green light/charged/float mode on LED display ever seen that happen or know what's going on maybe? I'm gunna leave it plugged in over night on float mode and hope for the best
- New starter, alternator and battery but I still have trouble starting my car? I have a honda accord, 110,000 miles. The battery, alternator and starter test good but half the time I try to start my car it will not start. It will click multiple times, the i try again and it starts. The clicking happens if I drive about 10 minutes and then turn off the engine and try and start it again 5-10 minutes later.
