Car shut off while driving?
I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX. I was driving home from work and noticed he started jolting, as i stepped on the accelerator. Then it started and dying on me and shut off in the middle of the road. Then it would not start again. Finally after a few tries i was able to start him and move it to a more safer spot on the side of the road and it shut off again. My wife came and i was able to get it started again to at least get it home which was just a few blocks away. We got home tried starting it again and nothing. Left it alone for about 45 min then came back to try again and it started, struggled a little bit. I've never had this happen, what should i be checking for? FYI i replaced the battery a couple months ago and i made sure terminals are tight and clean.
I'm not no mechanic but my grandmothers car has sort of the same problem. What i did was went to O' Reileys and bought some caurborator and throttle body cleaner and if that dowsnt work then i'm sorry i couldnt help.
The fact that you were able to start and restart it, suggests that the battery was fine. I would look for a lack of fuel problem. But there's not much to go on.
Fuel pump going bad and or the FPR and fuel filter need to be change out also.
- Why is my Honda Civic shutting off while driving? I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex… Recently I was driving and in the middle of driving, my car shuts off, all my gauges go down and took a while to crank back up. My battery light turned on, so I replaced the battery, thought maybe the battery was old and needed changing, thought maybe that was it. Well it didn't help, it still will shut off and the battery light is still on. Could it be the altinator? Suggestions are much appreciated.
- My car cuts off while driving? My 2000 Honda Civic ex will cut off on me in the middle of driving. Right before it cuts off all the interior lights will flicker. I've checked the connection on the battery and still doing it.
- What's happens to a car if you shut off the engine while you're stepping on the gas pedal? I have this 2002 Honda Accord I was playing around with that got sold for scrap. I was wondering what would happen if I held the gas pedal at about 4,000 RPMs and then proceed to shutoff the car while holding it at 4,000 rpms. I tried this, nothing bad seemed to have happened. The engine rpms quickly climbed down and the engine shut off like it should. I started the car again and everything seemed normal. Does this actually harm anything if you do this?
- Why does my car keep turning off while driving? I drive a 2002 Honda Accord coupe 6 cylinder & lately it's been turning off while I'm driving. The car just turns off & I always have to end up pulling over. When the car turns off, all the lights on the dash turn on including the TCS lights, brake light, door open lights, etc. When I try to start it back up it just tries to but doesn't. I usually wait about 5 minutes & it ll start again but it's been happening way more often now.
