My car cuts off while driving?
My 2000 Honda Civic ex will cut off on me in the middle of driving. Right before it cuts off all the interior lights will flicker. I've checked the connection on the battery and still doing it.
Check the alternator, it sounds like it's failing. I just had one rebuilt on the same year Civic. If you have the original have it rebuilt versus buying an aftermarket unit, they are junk.
Might be spark plug wires are touching
Check the ground strap running from the battery to the frame. Make sure the connection is clean and tight. Also check the connection on the starter motor and make sure all fuses are inserted properly and clean.
Replace the ignition switch.
Possibly a bad alternator. You need to test the battery voltage whilst the car is running, it should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts. If its at the right voltage you may have a bad earth somewhere.
Check the spark plug once. It would be best to locate the OBD port and plug in an OBD tool to diagnose the problem. Order it online or get it from the market. They are cheap and tell you all the problems in the car. But in honda, it'll be diffucult to locate the OBD port. In CIVIC, it's behind the pedals underneath the steering column. Hope it helps.
Could be many things causing the loss of electrical current. Take it to a good mechanic who has the proper tools and knowledge to diagnose. It will save you money and aggravation in the long run.
You obviously have an electrical problem and you don't want your car stopping in the middle of a freeway and get killed by someone backending you so bring it to a mechanic. But get an estimate first ok?
Bad alternator brushes, MAYBE< but start by power washing under your hood with GUNJK engine cleaner! This eliminates bad connections aND WILL FREE THE goo THAT MAY BE LEAKING OIL IN YOUR ALTERNATOR AND WIRING HARNESSES! Do not replace anything till your engine bay is SHOWROOMCLEAN! Focus on battery connections and clean them as well! CLean the DRIPIPNGS on your alternator itself!
Probably a defective ignition switch.(they do wear out).
- Why is my Honda Civic shutting off while driving? I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex… Recently I was driving and in the middle of driving, my car shuts off, all my gauges go down and took a while to crank back up. My battery light turned on, so I replaced the battery, thought maybe the battery was old and needed changing, thought maybe that was it. Well it didn't help, it still will shut off and the battery light is still on. Could it be the altinator? Suggestions are much appreciated.
- Why does my car keep turning off while driving? I drive a 2002 Honda Accord coupe 6 cylinder & lately it's been turning off while I'm driving. The car just turns off & I always have to end up pulling over. When the car turns off, all the lights on the dash turn on including the TCS lights, brake light, door open lights, etc. When I try to start it back up it just tries to but doesn't. I usually wait about 5 minutes & it ll start again but it's been happening way more often now.
- 1998 Honda Accord Ex struggles to turn on and shuts off while driving? The starter, battery, alternator, they're all good and I have no check engine light. Any idea what's wrong?
- 1994 Honda accord sometimes starts and then shuts off while driving? My 1994 Honda accord starts right up or doesn't start up at all. And when it does start is drives for about half a mile at the most and then my rpms drop to zero. I've replaced the main relay and checked fuses and I have a new battery and battery cables but still just don't even know what's going on with it. Any help is much appreciated
