2000 Honda Accord SE airbag?

My SRS light is on after starting up my car one morning. I hadn't had anything done to my car. Just out of the blue, it goes on. The Honda dealer said they will charge me $110 for diagnosis test but I'm l wondering if anyone knows any place or company (ex. AAMCO ) that does it cheaper? Thank you. My car has 132,000 miles just in case it's important.

You have a bad sensor for the airbag system somewhere. But there's several sensors and unfortunately you'll need a diagnosis test to find out which one it is. But most auto parts stores can do the test at little or no cost if you buy the part that's bad at their store.

Adrian I'm glad you mentioned the mileage since this indicates an older car with a "clockspring" in the steering column directly under the airbag.

They call it a clock spring because it is wound up like an old time clockspring in a watch or clock. This is so when you turn your steering wheel the clockspring wires that carry power to the horn and air bag and any other electrical parts inside your steering column, will not break, but age and use over time will cause these small wires to break from all the winding and unwinding they receive.

This is what I think is causing your problem, but if you're lucky it may be just that the airbag fuse is bad.

If there's no body damage to any corner, fender or quarter panel, and no one has been digging around the center console, then this is about all there's to check.

It's actually more than likely the seatbelt latch on the drivers seat. If it has anything to do with the seatbelt system then it is a lifetime warranty and both the repair and the diagnosis are free to you. Do not let the dealer tell you otherwise. I've had mine replaced twice on the same model and year as yours.

  • Is urgent airbag recall a scam? I've been getting these flyers nonstop for almost 2 years. Today I called my local Honda dealer to make an appointment apparently my car has 4 recalls to be repaired. However, I was a little uneasy about it since it's a free repair and who knows what they'd do with my car. The cs representative on the phone scheduled the appointment for tomorrow at 10pm a driver will come pick up my car and said will be ready next day. is this a normal process or scam?
  • Passenger airbag off? My mom hit my 2011 Honda Civic on the rear bumber. It was just a small scratch but since then the Passenger Air Bag off light has been on. Is there a way to fix it or should I take it to be repaired? My bad, it said Side Airbag not passenger. @Gary it's a small garage and it was an accident no fraud, no insurance claim is being made and it's a small dent.
  • Passenger airbag light turned on (Honda Civic)? I mistakenly left both my front windows rolled down in my 2012 Honda Civic hybrid during a rainstorm and now the "passenger airbag off" light is on, even though nobody (and nothing) is sitting in the passenger seat. The front portion of my car got pretty wet by the time I realized it (I d guess about 20-30mins of straight heavy downpour). What gives?
  • How to turn the front passenger airbag on in my 2014 honda civic? My family just got a new honda civic (standard model without the touch screen) a few weeks ago and haven't had any problems until just this weekend. For some reason the passenger airbag off light came on. It is like this all the time, so it's not an issue of someone sitting in the airbag deploy path. As far as we know, nobody touched any buttons, but we don't know how to turn the airbag back on. Any help's appreciated.
