Any good extended car warranty companies that have great customer service, and stick by their word and isn't bad/a scam?
So I'm thinking of getting an extended warranty for my 2016 Honda Civic, the reasoning being is it's been a nice car for the most part since I got it. But the display unit completely failed two times out of the 2 years and 6 months that I owned it. Looking to get an extended warranty so I'm not stuck with a car that has no display unit, since the display unit controls everything including the climate control. What are good extended car warranty companies some of you may recommend? And why?
On your car, I would purchase the Honda extended warranty.
Look into (CARSHIELD.COM)
Set the warranty premiums aside to pay for possible repairs. The chances are you won't need significant repairs on a Honda.
None will cover problems that already exist.
You are right to be cautious. If you belong to the AAA, check with them.
I'm not aware of any used car extended warranty that's worth the paper it's printed on (or even PDF'd on). Plus, most exclude electronic displays. Read the exclusions section and the definitions section. Most define a "failure" as a defect and specifically exclude wear and tear.
Hondas are very reliable, so I'd skip the extended warranty. Think about it this way. On average, what is the most common part of your particular Honda model to fail? Then find out what it costs to get it fixed. Not by a dealer, but by an independent; nobody goes (or should go) to a dealer for non-warranty repairs.
Once you have an idea of the repair costs, compare that to the cost of the warranty. Does paying for the extended warranty exceed the cost of repair? If not, then you have to ask yourself is it worth spending the money now to be basically insured for the cost of the repair minus the cost of the extended warranty. Say the repair is $1,000 and the warranty is $700. The odds of a Honda breaking is quite low, so spending $700 to possibly saving $300 may not be a good bet.
Do some research on the reliability of your model of Honda. This will show you what are the main issues if any with your model. You may find that it's very reliable, or you may find that it's got a unreliable engine or tranny. In that case, get a warranty.
I'd call some independent mechanics that work on Hondas and ask for their opinion on your year and model.
There's some thing on tv they insure you for repairs but up to 150K miles. Not very useful if you've got 140K.
