How do you adjust a 1987 Honda civic startup Idle?
I have a 1987 Honda Civic Base Sedan 1.5 with a carburetor. For the first 3 or 4 minutes after startup it idles at about 3K rpms and then drops to normal idle. I know how to adjust the idle on a carb but after the first few minutes it idles fine. I don't know if it has some sort of timer that keeps it idling so high. It only does this if it hasn't been driving in awhile so i'm assuming it just does it until the engine reaches a certain temp which is fine but 3k rpms makes it sound like i'm just revving the engine in the parking lot which i'm not a fan of.
Make sure the electric choke is working.
What's a carb
The choke mechanism increases the idle when cold. Remove the air cleaner and wiggle the choke plate. Follow the mechanism, there should be a second idle speed screw for the fast idle, adjust that.
