My honda crv 2013 maintenance light showed up before the due date of oil change, can i rest the light before i do the oil change service?

Its just a light. If you want it to be accurate i'd reset it when you do the oil though.

Leave it there. You might forget to change the oil.

Yes… If you're using regular oil change it every 3,000 miles. If using synthetic oil change it every 5,000 miles. The on board oil change reminder goes too many miles between oil changes and if your motor has adjustable cam timing problems will develop if you don't follow this suggestion.

Sure you can reset the light. But it will come on too soon again. The trick is to reset it when you change the oil. The timer goes by miles, not by the date.

I'm on my 2nd CRV. My experience is that the light comes on based on factors other than time and mileage. I'm not sure how the programming decides to alert you to change the oil.

The light turns on when you have completed a certain number of miles… So it is not date specific. So it is telling you you did enough miles to warrant an oil change now.
Why not do it and NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY?

Oil is cheap, 2.4Litre Honda DOHC VTEC goodness not so much. Why buy a car with service interval indicator if you wanna by-pass it. You can reset the light but you will make Baby Honda-Jesus cry.

The light will likely come on at the interval set by the manufacturer. You should change the oil according to that guideline. Here's the trick. Keep it on until you change your oil, then change it subsequently each time the light comes on. You don't have to change it ever 3,000 miles. We have better made engines and better oils than they had 30 years ago. It doesn't hurt to do it at 3,000 miles, but you'll just be spending money that is unnecessary.

The oil change light comes on when they oil needs to be changed no matter how many miles you have driven. The system counts down oil life based on engine operating conditions (both normal and severe). The on-board computer continuously monitors engine operating conditions such as speed, engine temperature, ambient temperature, time, and vehicle use to determine when an oil change and regular maintenance is necessary. The beauty of the Honda Maintenance Minder system is that it automatically adjusts the maintenance intervals based on engine operating characteristics, your driving habits, and the climate that you have operated your vehicle in. For instance, mild highway driving in a warm climate will maximize the interval between required maintenance. Depending on the vehicle, this could be as high as 12,000 miles. On the other hand, short-trip driving in a cold climate may limit the maintenance interval to 3,000 miles or less. In general, most people who combine city and highway driving find that the Honda Maintenance Minder will indicate maintenance needs about every 6,000 miles. Most people maintain constant driving habits; this means that mileage between maintenance will be consistent. I change the oil in my Honda Accord when the indicator shows 15% and that is usually around 7,000 miles. I use synthetic oil.

  • Where can I go to service my car for maintenance if I'm in another city? My maintenence light warning came on today on my Honda and I'm currently in another city for work. Can I go the nearest Honda dealer to get it serviced or would I have to go through a mechanic
  • How long does it take for loan max to repossess your car after your loan due date in Ohio? I took out an $800 title loan on my 2000 Honda Oddyssey (188,000 miles) and I can't make the initial repayment amount of $288 on time. How long will it be before they send someone out to repossess my car? I live in Ohio and I'm really afraid they will repossess it before I can come up with the cash.
  • What's average cost for car 30,000 maintenance service? I have a 2013 CR-V that I bought a few months back. Just got the oil changed at the dealership and they told me that I the car will be due for its 30,000 maintenance service in the winter. The honda service center charges $525 for the service. Is this average?
  • My car showed no oil, so I filled it, and now it's overfull? Hi, so I checked my oil when my car was hot and it showed no oil, so i filled it up. Today I checked it when it was cold and now it shows over full, like over double what's supposed to be in there. I drive an 05 honda civic if that makes a difference. Obviously I'm going to drain it, but why did it show none when I checked. Would it just be because it was hot?
