Shadow phantom or street 750?

I'm looking to upgrade from a Honda rebel which one do you think is a better overall bike and is safest for a 17 year old thanks guys

The Shadow is more likely to be reliable as it's an older platform and has been made in one form or another for a couple of decades and it's a Honda which you are familiar with.

The Street 750 is a brand new motorcycle by Harley - its first domestic water cooled attempt and a new displacement category for them. So far it seems to be met with decent reviews. Time will tell if it's a good first effort for them for an entry level bike that's not a sportster.

Shadow.
Hands down.
The Honda has a rear drum brake which most dislike, but I love.
Shaft drive, low maintenance.
Low compression, may be able to use mid or low grade gas to get home.

The HD has disc rear (dislike my current HD disc).
Belt drive. Most like, but I lost 2 before converting to chain.
High compression, requires 91 octane or better.

I have had a number of Hondas, and the only problems were the ones they had when I bought them.
I looked at the Street during Bike Week. Had it to highway speed on the "rolling stand". Didn't like the sound or feel. Fit and finish… Poor.
Exposed wires, connectors in the breeze.
I've seen cheap imports that looked better.

From previous questions, I get the impression this would be your first bike.
If you insist on buying new, clear choice is the Honda.
Of course, I'd recommend buying an older, used one.

I prefer the Harley Davidson.
Same MRSP.
60 pounds lighter
Cast aluminum wheels -- tubeless, no need of rib strips and tubes. Safer.
Belt -- good for 100,000 miles before replacement. No need for getting replacement cogs/chains not mentioning the grease.
Far better performance. (oh yeah, gotta use premium gas. 20 cents more per gallon, 5% more money for 10% more performance.)

Ride each one and then choose.

  • Would a Honda Shadow Phantom 750 be a begginer motorcycle? OK. I'm 16 years old I've bought all the nessecary gear I got that idea of watching cyclecruza's squid videos and didn't want that to happen to me. Well because I shouldn't look up to my dad who rides a Harley 1200 who only wears a helment a t shirt and just jeans. I know not to go over the speed limit but all I need to know if thus good first bike.
  • What motorcycle will give me a similiar ride to my 750 Shadow but bigger? I learned to ride on a 2007 Honda Shadow VT750C2F and now I'm looking to go bigger. I love almost every detail about my Shadow; tire size, spokes, driveshaft, handling, width, engine look and feel etc. However, in my next bike I want a bigger gas tank, more cubic cenimeters (inches) and I want to sit a bit higher on the hog (pun intended). 6 speed would be nice but mostly I want the look, feel and reliability of my Shadow in an 1100cc+. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • What is the max speed in each gear for a 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750? I can't find any details, even from Honda, what the maximum speed in MPH is for each of the 5 gear ratios on my 750 Shadow. Also, what is the engine redline? No factory tach and no details on what the engine is capable of turning.
  • Is a honda shadow 750 too much bike for a beginner? I'm a pretty big guy, and they felt comfortable at the dealerships.dealerships. I'm seeing used ones selling for around 2500-3500 i great shape.3000 is about my budget, and I don't have unlimited money, I know people say to start on a 250 and sell it, but I don't really have the funds, and the 250s are about the same money as a shadow 750. I just wanna know if this bike would be an appropriate beginner
