Why are Honda's so popular?

Added (1). The days of the cheap civic 5 speeds are over although I agree those were very reliable.
My family is very loyal to Honda. Who cares how strong the engine is when they have an achilles heel of a transmission.

my dads 2006 Ridgeline- 90k miles bank 1 catalytic converter out. Between firewall and engine. $1300 repair for parts and labor

my moms 2000 Odyssey- 1st transmission went out at 50k miles. 2nd went out at 190k miles (lasted 140k miles). Each transmission cost $3300 PLUS labor.

Added (2). what good is better MPG compared to other trucks if you have to drop the intermediate shaft and the manifold cat converter goes out at 90k miles? $1300 labor. It is so much easier to work on a RWD truck. I hate working on a 4wd Honda Ridgeline or pilot where everything is so compacted.

Added (3). Honda cars and trucks have this reputation of reliable vehicles that you can drive 300,000 miles easy, but in my experience they haven't been. They put tiny transmissions on their vehicles to squeese a few more MPGs out of them so they look good on consumer reports. In the real world this is not cost effective AT ALL. When they rust you have to pay a mechanic extra to cut and weld.

Added (4). The Ridgeline and Pilot seem like a car that was made by engineers who didn't think about how a mechanic was going to fix them when the exhaust becomes rusty. IMO ANYONE who wants a low cost operation vehicle should buy something that UHAUL uses. MPGs don't matter when you factor in rare hard to get parts like exaust manifolds and transmission that need to be ordered through the dealer. When you buy domestic cars you have no problem finding parts at autozone or the junkyard cheap.

Added (5). side facing 4WD makes life very hard on the mechanic. I don't know how they are going to be able to cut my dad's rusty downpipe off the cat converter when it is between the back of the engine and the firewall, there's no space back there. It is so much easier to work on a RWD or 4WD front facing engine. This is probably why hondas aren't used in fleet operations. I understand that the engines are high quality, but the final product is not there for me. They seem better suited for a soccer mom.

Car accident on a provisional license. I'm 16 and have had my license for 4 months. What is going to happen?

So today at lunch, I got into a car accident with 2 of my friends in the car with me who are under 20. I was making a left out of a shopping center onto a busy street and he came out of nowhere, possibly speeding. The front of my van hit the side of his car. Nothing too serious, a very minor low speed hit. When we pulled over, my friends walked back to school while I talked to the other driver. There was some scuff marks and the fender popped on my car, but nothing serious (it is a very old honda odyssey). There was a long scuff mark and some scratches on the side of his car and maybe a little damage to his wheel and hub cap. Both cars are still running. We exchanged information. He called his insurance right away. No police was called. He stated there were no injuries but I had to give the name of my friends to his insurance agent, but she asked if there were any injuries and I said everyone is perfectly fine. My friends told me they are both okay. The driver seemed nice and told his insurance the damage wasn't anything major. Will I get my license suspended if there was no police there to give me a citation? Will his insurance file a report to the police and/or DMV? Can you make an estimate on how much my premium going to go up? How much do you think the damage to his car would cost? Please help, this has not been my week at all. I understand I was irresponsible for driving my friends when i wasn't supposed to.

Why is my 98 Honda Odyssey using so much gas after replacing the catalytic converter?

Ok so i used a aftermarket part but it was recommended as a good brand (walker) my check engine light had been on and a mechanic told me the sound was definitely the cat. Also auto zone ran the codes and it said something about the cat. I've also replaced plugs and had a tune up and my tires are fine but my gas mileage is horrible! My brother did the job and reused and made the best of the rubber ring seal thing because the one i purchased was not right. He also used new bolts because one stripped that were also not an exact dealer fit. Could this if caused an issue? My engine light has stayed off after being reset. I've replaced the air filter. What could be the problem? Thanks for any advice i just can't afford what a shop wants to charge for these problems and i have allot of trouble trusting shops as well I've been done dirty a few times by them.
